As a partner at Propel, David invests in early-stage companies that are leveraging technology to transform financial services. David has served on the board of Steady and works closely with companies such as Newfront, Hippo, Ease, and TravelBank. His professional experience includes working at leading retail and commercial banks, Silicon Valley Bank and BBVA.
At BBVA, David focused on venture capital investments, corporate development, strategy, and M&A. He was involved in BBVA’s acquisition of Simple and investments in companies such as Docusign, Coinbase, Earnest, SumUp, and Personal Capital.
At Silicon Valley Bank, David worked with hundreds of venture capital backed startups in the technology industry including many category-defining software companies. In addition to supporting startups with valuation engagements, David led research efforts in emerging industries, and efforts to identify top-performing companies utilizing data from within the bank.
David graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he double majored in Finance, Investment & Banking, and Management & Human Resources – Entrepreneurship.
As a partner at Propel Venture Partners, Jay invests in early-stage companies that are leveraging technology to transform financial services. He has led investments in Coinbase, DocuSign, and Personal Capital, among others. Before BBVA spun off the fund and became a limited partner, Jay led BBVA Ventures and the global bank’s acquisition of Simple.
Prior to Propel, Jay held several positions at Visa in digital transformation, emerging projects, and ecommerce. As head of the Visa Corporate Ventures and Strategic Alliances group he led investments in information security, mobile, and payments technology companies—several of which were acquired by major corporations. He first came to Visa through his work with Andersen Consulting.
Jay’s career spans traditional banking to tech startups: He was a commercial loan officer at Old Kent Financial Corporation—back before it became part of Fifth Third—and helped launch TicketTruck, a social commerce platform.
Rohit leads Propel Venture Partners’ international fund and is looking to partner with entrepreneurs building transformational companies that impact financial services. Rohit has led and currently manages Propel’s investments in Trussle (UK), Groww (India) and DataSine (UK). Rohit joined Propel from American Express Ventures, which he helped launch in 2011, and brings global investing and operating experience in a wide range of sectors including payments, commerce, wealth management, insurance, AI, and security. At American Express Ventures, Rohit led investments in Plaid, Enigma, Signifyd, Capillary Technologies, Trulioo, Clip, Mezi (acquired), and inAuth (acquired) among others. Prior to Amex Ventures, Rohit helped launch Hartford Ventures, one of the early VC programs in the insurance industry. Earlier in his career Rohit held various positions at Motorola in engineering, product development, and its ventures division. He has developed key mobile video and security technologies and holds seven US patents.
As a founder and investor, Ryan brings over 20 years of global financial services expertise spanning payments, remittances, credit, security, and compliance to Propel Venture Partners. Ryan represents Propel on the boards of Guideline, EaseCentral, Steady, Charlie Finance, and Grabango. He serves as the executive chairman of SmartBizLoans, a small business lending marketplace that he founded as an entrepreneur-in-residence at Venrock; a director of bKash, Bangladesh’s leading remittance network; and a director of River City Bank in Sacramento. His prior roles include co-founder and CEO of real estate payments company PropertyBridge (acquired by MoneyGram International), an early investor in Eventbrite, and a founding advisor to Square. Ryan graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, and is member of the State Bar of California.
Krista handles operations and project management responsibilities across Propel Venture Partners and provides logistical support for the investment team. She has been particularly focused on developing and expanding the firm’s events program.
Her prior operational experience includes office and team management in the hospitality, insurance, and accounting industries.
She holds a BA in international business from the University of Las Vegas Nevada. She’s also a certified sommelier, and has related interests in regional cuisine and mindful travel.
Jurgen van de Vyver
Jurgen manages Propel Venture Partners’ various finance functions, including valuations, financial reporting, and day-to-day operations.
He’s a qualified chartered accountant in South Africa, where he previously worked for KPMG. He played rugby and earned a masters degree in accounting and finance at Stellenbosch University.
Jurgen also helped start the Crypto Aquarium, a crypto community on Telegram.
